How to connect TrackMyNetWorth to an MCP-compatible AI assistant

TrackMyNetWorth Pro includes a remote MCP server, so compatible AI assistants can answer questions about your net worth, family members, holdings and history without manual exports.

What MCP unlocks

MCP, short for Model Context Protocol, lets an AI assistant call approved tools from another product. In TrackMyNetWorth, that means a compatible assistant can answer questions using your actual portfolio data instead of asking you to paste screenshots or export a CSV.

The current TrackMyNetWorth MCP server is read-only and Pro-only for financial data. The assistant can read net worth summaries, holdings, family members and snapshot history after you sign in and approve access.

Before you start

  • You need an active TrackMyNetWorth Pro plan to receive portfolio data through MCP.
  • Your AI client must support remote MCP servers over HTTP with OAuth sign-in.
  • Use this server URL: https://api.trackmynetworth.in/mcp
  • Only connect MCP servers listed directly by products you trust.

Connect with Claude

Claude is the easiest first setup path because it has a built-in custom connector flow for remote MCP servers.

  1. Open Claude and go to Settings, then Connectors.
  2. Choose Add custom connector.
  3. Paste https://api.trackmynetworth.in/mcp as the remote MCP server URL.
  4. Finish adding the connector, then click Connect when Claude asks you to authenticate.
  5. Sign in to TrackMyNetWorth and approve the requested read access.
  6. Start a new chat, open Search and tools, and enable the TrackMyNetWorth tools you want Claude to use.

Once connected, try: What is my current net worth by asset class? or Show my family portfolio holdings grouped by member.

Other compatible clients

ClientWhat to know
ClaudeRecommended first path. Remote MCP connectors are available in Claude and Claude Desktop on supported plans.
CursorSupports remote MCP servers using Streamable HTTP or SSE, with OAuth support for authenticated servers.
ChatGPTSupports custom MCP apps/connectors in supported developer-mode workspace contexts. Availability depends on ChatGPT plan and workspace settings.
Other MCP clientsUse the same remote server URL if the client supports HTTP-based MCP authorization and OAuth sign-in.

Compatibility depends on each client, not only on TrackMyNetWorth. If a client asks for transport, choose Streamable HTTP or remote HTTP when available.

What the assistant can read

  • Latest net worth summary with stocks, mutual funds, gold, silver, EPF, PPF, NPS, fixed deposits and loans.
  • Portfolio holdings grouped by asset class and family member.
  • Family member names, relationships and portfolio names.
  • Net worth snapshot history for trend questions.
  • Stock and mutual fund holding search by symbol or name.

Security and plan behavior

The MCP connection uses OAuth, so you sign in with TrackMyNetWorth rather than sharing your password with an AI assistant. Every financial-data tool call checks your current TrackMyNetWorth plan before reading portfolio data.

If your Pro plan expires, the connection may still exist in the AI client, but tool calls return an upgrade message instead of account data. Your portfolio remains stored in TrackMyNetWorth, and access resumes when the account becomes Pro again.

Frequently asked questions

Is TrackMyNetWorth MCP only for Claude?
No. Claude is the first recommended setup path because its custom connector flow supports remote MCP well, but the TrackMyNetWorth endpoint is a standard remote MCP server. Other clients can work when they support remote HTTP MCP with OAuth.
Can Starter users connect the MCP server?
Starter users may be able to complete the sign-in and consent flow, but financial-data tools return only an upgrade message. Portfolio data is returned only when the TrackMyNetWorth account has an active Pro plan.
Can the AI assistant change my portfolio?
No. The current MCP tools are read-only. They can summarize net worth, list family members, show holdings, search holdings and read history, but they cannot add, edit or delete assets.
Which MCP URL should I use?
Use https://api.trackmynetworth.in/mcp as the remote MCP server URL.
